Shorts have been a summer staple for quite some time but this year, the shorts trend is hotter than ever. You know they are the “it” bottom when celebrities are seen wearing them all over. This season, shorts come in a variety of styles…they can be worn to the beach, out shopping, and even out at night.

Hello Stylemenyc.com readers!
As you know, the event calendar is filled with things for you to do and attend in the beautiful NYC. I try my best to pick the best for our readers and I try to pick events that I would attend myself. So, this week, I chose to go to the Triple 5 Soul Sample Sale and to the American Museum of Natural History for its special exhibition: “Mythic Creatures: Dragons, Unicorns, & Mermaids” (running until January 6, 2008.)
My first destination: the Triple 5 Soul Sample Sale! Located at 33 West 17th St., you might not be able to find it if you don’t look hard enough. So here’s a picture so that you can recognize what it looks like on the outside:

I had only planned on stopping by for a bit, as I had assumed that all the good stuff would have been gone already. But upon entering, it was like hitting a T5S goldmine:
A long table of hats, bags, scarves, & shoes!

Rows and rows of sweats, shorts, jackets…

…pants, tops, hoodies, sweaters—you name it!
There was a makeshift changing room in the corner, and so much stuff that it felt overwhelming, in a good way. The next time a sample sale is posted and you are hesitant because it has been going on for a few days already, definitely just go and check it out. You may be pleasantly surprised!

Although the sale is over now, here were some of the prices:
- -light knit sweaters: $45
-heavy knit sweaters: $55-$65
-shorts: $30
-skirts: $20
-wallets: $10
-hats: $15
-small bags: $25
-t-shirts: $20
Although I didn’t get anything, I felt pretty satisfied with the trip. We left and decided to make the trip over to the American Museum of Natural History!

Here’s a little tip: museum admission is only a “suggested” price, so if you want to see an exhibition or a show, you can opt to pay their suggested combined price, or the price of an exhibition ticket plus your donation to the museum. That’s a little trick they decided to put in fine print.
For example, the price of a student ticket for both an exhibition and museum entry is $16.50. The fine print stated that the student price for an exhibition ticket was $13, and that we could pay whatever we wanted for museum entry. So, I ended up paying $14.
The mythical creatures exhibition only allows timed entry, so you can only enter at the half hour every hour. Upon entering the poorly lit exhibit, a security guard demanded that no pictures were to be taken.
I made it from the start of the exhibit to the end of the exhibit in roughly 7 minutes; even with stopping to look at many things. I have always been impressed with the AMNH, and I had expected the same kind of quality from their special exhibit—but the creatures appeared terribly fake, and I was left wanting so much more.
Pictures are not allowed to be taken, but here are some I found floating around on the internet:

Conclusion: Even if a sample sale has been going on for a few days, do not feel discouraged to stop on by. I would suggest that you spend your time on money on something other than the mythical creatures exhibit, although the museum itself was amazing as always.
Come back soon for a new adventure!
