We heart Gen Art, we truly do. Where else could you go to a stellar premiere in Chelsea, the true kind of cinema, art in its purest form. Seriously though. Sure, our stomachs may have churned and turned during the short documentary “If a Body Meets Body” (yes, they talked about cadavers and may have shown them too, but hey, my eyes were shut), we were all chuckles during Nightlife, the feature film premiere of blood-sucking ambition.

The half-script, half-improv film by Tim Sanderson did not disappoint! With a penchant for wearing black even if it’s not Fashion Week, maybe just maybe it’s the life of a vampire. The hysterical mockumentary revealed the insight behind vampires. Sure, they seem just like us. They watch really bad reality TV. They eat take-out. They make fun of each other like the vampire Larry whose real name is Laurenzio. These creature of the nights have it goin’ on until the vampire hunters who are also D&D (dungeons & dragons) geeks try to vanquish the demons of the night with their homemade weapons and yes, banana pudding. Amidst the laughter the most poignant moment of the film is this: as Avi talks about relationships and humans he laments the fact that vampires are immortal. Without an urgency or living in the moment, why bother?

We were in for a real treat after the flick as the director and cast ascended the front of the theater to do some Q&A including sharing the scoop on alternate endings, what it’s like to film in Austin, and yes, free food (doesn’t it always come down to the food?) Guests cabbed our way to Touch in midtown west as we imbibed our complimentary drinks with glow-in-the-dark ice cubes sponsored by Acura.
